For KAAM, LLC will host, A Day of Healing and Release at the Gwynn Event Center in Columbia, SC, on February 11th, 2023, from 11 am-3 pm. The purpose of this event is to celebrate the launch of Shannon’s new book, Mixed Emotions: Their Journey Through Life, Love, Laughter, and Loss. Although Shannon is excited to have completed such an amazing accomplishment, A Day of Healing and Release will be much more than a book launch. The mission is much bigger! Attendees will experience an array of mixed emotions associated with love, laughter, and loss and be ignited to walk in their power through various displays of ART. There will be poetry, a live band, live painting, dancing accompanied by drums, and banging food. Come experience healing and release through ART.

Joy McLaughlin-Harris is a Shift Speaker, Shift Coach™️, and Realtor. She is a renowned Published Author, Certified Financial Literacy Coach, Community Activist, Wife, and Mother. Joy was featured internationally in Hyphenette magazine and won Mompreneur of the year in Columbia, SC. Joy has been featured on television as an awesome businesswoman, philan-thropist and entrepreneur. Joy has traveled the world teaching on leadership, entrepreneurship and mindset transformation. Joy has helped hundreds of entrepreneurs scale their businesses from barely making money to having four-figure months to six-figure months and from a five-figure year to a six-figure year.
PERFORMERS
Michael Canty is a Columbia native and West African percussion enthusiast. His interest in music began at a young age, learning various instruments and genres of sound. As a young adult, Michael became deeply entranced in the rhythms of Africa, and West Africa specifically. This fascination coincided with his personal ancestral story and elevated his commitment to understanding the essence of the drum. Under the mentorship of Djembefolas (Master Drummers) Amara Camara and Ibrahima Dioubate of Conakry, Guinea, West Africa, Michael studied numerous techniques and performance styles which he enjoys exhibiting today. Currently, he is involved with many performance groups, including Gye Nyame Dance Ensemble, Cultural Expressions, and Jazz Dog. Outside of his career in Civil Engineering Design, Michael spends his time with family and studying genealogy.
Andre' Mitchell Griffin is 16 years old and currently a junior at Midlands Arts Conservatory. He aspires to one day become a professional artist. Andre' has been drawing since the age of three. His art has evolved from drawing cartoon characters and Greek mythology gods and goddesses to drawing and painting people and nature scenes. Andre' has been painting for five years! During this time, he has entered several art competitions. His work was included in a show hosted by one of our renowned local artists, Earnest Lee! Andre's art was also entered juried art shows and displayed in art exhibits. In May 2021, his dream became a reality; he opened his business, AG Artistry, LLC, where he sells his art at local venues and events. Andre' loves to use acrylic and oil paint the most, as each brings out its striking qualities in its own ways. His main focus is on afro-centric art as he tries to uplift the Black community through the talents God has given him.
Hailing from the Coastal region of SC, singer/songwriter Kamon Singleton has been writing and recording original music since 2017. The release of His first faith-based EP “Believe,” with help from long-time friends, birthed Kamon Singleton & Friends. While simultaneously singing with other bands for years, Kamon decided to evolve KS&F into his very own band, expanding his versatility by blending gospel roots with flares of neo-soul and RnB. The KSF Band is an evolution of friendship, musicianship, and liberation through “feel-good” music.
“Nkoyo” is an Efik name that literally means “woman who can do all things”. Nkoyo Binah Ojuok embodies that name. Divine Compliment (wife), mother of 8, Independent Educator, grand midwife apprentice, MC, performer, and dancer are just some of the titles that this powerful queen has earned. With the energy of a celestial goddess, Nkoyo Binah delivers messages of divinity and grace through dance in a variety of forms. She describes her style as “Uhuru” (freedom), and her prayer is that whenever she performs, those that are in attendance receive divine “downloads” that uplift the spirit and stimulate the mind.
Curtis 'Heru' Boyd Warm to the World and creative leader by archetype. He is a Native of South Carolina, raised in the Low Country. He is an Orgone craftsman honing his skills to share balanced vibrations to amplify one's ability to activate one's potential. Curtis is also a music connoisseur by trade as a student of Ethnomusicology at Kenyatta University in Kenya. He has an ever-increasing awareness of sound, frequencies, and healing. Curtis is passionate about bridging the gap of awareness for all who have eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart to feel. He's an African Dance instructor, music teacher, and Soul Coach with Secret Energy. Heru, as he is also known, loves building and sustaining healthy relationships with sovereignty as the Goal! Founder OneTribe HMU, an Unapologetic Node of Metaphysical Devices and Coaching.

About Shannon
Shannon Palmer is a native of Hopkins, South Carolina. She is a mother, and author and has a Bachelor's in Social Work. Shannon uses art, poetry, and writing as a way to be creative through words, express emotions, and more. For KAAM was created after giving birth to her daughter in 2019. Shannon battled postpartum depression and turned to writing as an outlet, and from that, "Mixed Emotions" was created.
